The thing with this event is that it basically disincentivizes the BG dedicated alliances from their normal 500k to 1M targets for individuals. They will all get the 5k points without much trouble but they won't push with units because there are no ranked alliance rewards to incentivize them. Many will not want to subsidize the rest of the community.
The lower players expecting to be carried by whales will be doing the bare minimum they need to.
I think like the current realm event.. selfishness will make the event disappointing. I hope i'm wrong..
You hit the nail on the head. Why on earth would I waste all my elder marks and units to get the exact same rewards as everyone else and don’t even mention the solo ranked rewards… those are trash too. A titan crystal come on
I think the comparison should be with Necropolis instead of the crystal popping event though. People were way more invested in the launch of Necropolis because the rewards were good. Will there be people who only hit the milestone for top milestone purposes and do nothing more? Of course. I just believe there are a lot more people who will put in higher effort because of the better rewards.
I don't think we'll hit all of the Titan shard rewards because those rewards seem a bit too high, but I would be surprised if we don't hit the titan. In any event, the event starts October 2nd so we'll see.
You can't compare it to Necropolis, there was an actual exploration reward along with a progression title, scoring was the same for everyone participating, a death was a death. Not half a death, not a % of a death. You have a ton of people making sure they say "I will grind the 5k", making all the math of what will require to get the 5k, 73 wins in VT, 50 in GC .. The grind number is pretty much set. We are starting a marathon knowing that at 15 miles we will start cramping up...
I absolutely can compare it to the Necropolis and did. The deathless piece for reaching gladiator circuit is the actual priority for me with this season and the deathless piece for Necropolis was why I pushed my second account through the initial completion and the "proto" realm event rewards was why I did it earlier rather than waiting a few months. The barrier for playing Battlegrounds is way lower than completing even one run of Necropolis. There are people who are cavalier who will contribute to this event that did not contribute at all to the Necropolis event because their roster wasn't up to snuff. Additionally, there'll be people who aren't interested in the deathless piece that will still play because of the Banquet tickets. It's certainly closer to Necropolis in scope of interest and rewards rather than the crystal opening event.
I agree it isn't one to one, but I see more similarities than differences. I think we're ultimately will have to agree to disagree on this one though.

Oops I forgot to mention- wasn’t the biggest BGs turnout during the vision deathless piece and around 50k made it to GC for that…. But now we have to rely on 200k people to reach 5k points which is somewhere around 450k-500k (current points)
This sounds all great and stuff when you consider that whenever we have big rewards, the turnout is stronger. If one is losing every single matchup in VT, that's 23 points. Even at 50% win rate, that is (45 x 0.5) + 23 = 45.5 points per match. If someone is getting all their points in VT, that is 110 matches using EM. So you need 9900 EMs. Lots of EMs in the Realm Event milestones too.
Anyone who finishes in GC regularly will likely have an 80% win rate in VT. I can't recall is it Diamond 1 that GC finishers start from? So then if starting from D1:
7 medals to reach V5 5 medals to reach V4 6 medals to reach V3 6 medals to reach V2 7 medals to reach V1
In terms of wins, 4 + 3 + 3 + 3 + 4 = 14. At 80% win rate that is 17.5 or rounded up to 18. 14 wins is 45+23 = 68 points each. 4 losses is 23 points each. That is 952 + 92 = 1044 points for 1620 Elder's Marks in VT.
You need to make the remaining of the 5000 points (3956) in GC. So a win will give you (90 + 28 = 118) points and a loss will give you 28 points.
At 75% win rate, (118*(3/4)) + 28 = 116.5 per match -- Total matches = 3956/116.5 = approx 34 matches (3060 EMs)
At 66% win rate, (118*(2/3)) + 28 = 78.67 per match -- Total matches = 3956/78,67 = 51 matches rounded up (4590 EMs)
At 50% win rate, (118/2) + 28 = 87 per match -- Total matches = 3956/87 = 46 matches rounded up (4140 EMs)
At 33% win rate, (118/3) + 28 = 67.33 per match -- Total matches = 3956/67.33 = 59 matches rounded up (5310 EMs)
At 25% win rate, (118/4) +28 = 57.5 per match -- Total matches = 3956/57.5 = 69 matches rounded up (6210 EMs)
We do get 6000 EMs in Realm milestones so the big thing to manage here is time. Lots going on in the game. But on an individual level, sure this sounds PLAUSIBLE.
HOWEVER on the Realm scale, this is pointless. I have finished near the bottom of URU3 many times because I just stopped after reaching that point. My rank has been around 28000. Even right now I sit at around 6k rank in URU3 with a couple of wins under my belt. That would put me around rank 14k. Lets say 30,000 summoners get 5000 points. That is 150M points. How much more are those in VT adding? Even if we double this which is unlikely considering the major points getters are more likely to be found in GC, we will only reach 300M. The first 7 star shards drop at 450M milestone. This sounds insane on paper.
TLDR: On an individual level, these rewards feel achievable as 5k points doesn't seem too bad even though 100 BG matches is a LOT! These rewards will be pointless for the serious BG players because the good rewards milestones are out of reach collectively.

S22 looks very good, the highest rewards are at the 1 bill milestone, and after that just decent rewards (a safety measure), just like the 'road to the crypt' milestones.. For an average bg player, who reaches GC regularly and has 9k.ish elder marks, will be easy to get to 5k points, but for others who "don't bother" playing BGs, will not be that easy, and that's cool.. The problem is that ranked rewards could use an upgrade, for the top 100, at least, because hardcore players won't have an incentive to push harder...
Idk about Realm Events, but they feel like it's an in-game survey just to see what kind of time people dedicate to the game. Who knows, the real motive may just be to see the survivability of the game in the future years. I mean, obviously there are loads of content creators out there, just people with normal lives cannot dedicate that kind of time to the game.

Which is exactly why it will be hard to get to 1B+, hardcore BG players have no incentive to score over 5k individually or as an alliance.
Hello. Very proud of the community for respectfully voicing their concerns about this event's design. We have taken this feedback to heart and will be making some changes to our plans for the BG season. An announcement with details should follow before the end of the week.

Roughly 10 minutes unless you’re in celestial matches
Not just that, if you make it into GC, the Crit nodes means that fights will take a long time since the defenders will likely be crit resistant. I can totally see Man-Thing fights just being burned into my retinas

The level of responsiveness you and the team have shown in this thread have been great. Transitions are tough and I know a lot of the community has been frustrated with a range of issues, but I wanna just take a moment to say that this attentiveness is awesome and appreciated.
I don’t like battlegrounds and I also don’t see myself dumping my time in there. One match takes 10 minutes, it’s not enticing for me.
This whole event structure is a huge turn off for me. I will happily pay the 5k units for the deathless piece since I am an Arena junky
And this is exactly why I lose faith, its not bad enough you will probably do whatever minimum requirement to claim a reward that suits you. You also have the need to flaunt the fact that you won't put any effort and just claim whatever you can.

I am not bragging or flaunt about anything, the simple baseline is that I don’t play BG. I did not play one match last 3 seasons. Nothing more nothing less
I believe it's to prevent point farming in lower ranks don't believe it's enough incentive for me to try GC tho, it's just makes point farming more tedious edit: t's up from 66 VT wins to 73 VT wins, barely a difference for anyone wondering. and rewards are much better, I'm a fan so far
73 wins in VT for the 5k points? Cool now we just gotta make sure we got 300k active players doing the 5K minimum....
I'm skeptical that there are 300K active BG players, let alone 300K who will hit 5000 points each. I've played just one day of BGs some seasons and have placed in the 200K range.

Well thanks for letting us know you will be a constant supply of carbon dioxide during this event, I'm pretty sure the plants will appreciate it.

No need to get toxic bro, we all have different perspectives on different game modes. Love peace and harmony. Relax
I have a question. In the necropolis event, players could theoretically help the death totals by beating the first opponent then dying completely on the second. Then repeat. Generally this practice of dying on purpose is frowned upon in battlegrounds. Point farming accusations and such. Would the community be more inclined to accept this type of behavior in the upcoming season? Since it not only benefits the player but the community as well? Now I'm not talking about the people(you know who you are) that will accept a match then set their phone down til its over and waste everybodies time. I'm talking about the people who will quickly pick their champs and just not fight. Win or lose every fight contributes points to the realm event.

How long from hitting “Find Opponent” to being done and ready to hit it again are people averaging?
I’m curious what the worst case scenario is in terms of time commitment to hit 5k.
