Yep that’s how it is I guess. I’d argue serpent has had the biggest impact due to being worse than some others on release and being released while battlegrounds is a thing.

I am like most recent commenters: disappointed but not surprised.
Multiple things can be true: I want the game to do well, continue for years to come. I understand that periodically things can change and will change — I have been here since the beginning, as have many others, so we have all seen it change.
It doesn’t bother me that Shathra is apparently a hard counter — I don’t like it, but I get it.
My problem is that I honestly and truly believe that Serpent, even with a tune down, would still be the best defender in this game. I don’t even have a huge problem with how the kit works.
But man, Death Immunity as it is, with all of the carveouts, is busted. It just is. It’s busted, and yes, maybe one year from now or five years from, there will be 100 kits that can easily handle it.
I don’t think so, though. That one’s busted, and if it gets widespread use in the game with various nodes that will also likely evolve…IDK, man. IDK about that one.

The game has literally been built on releasing Champs, Nodes, and counters to them. It's not new, and it's not an injustice.
I never said it was new, and injustice is a bit of a stretch, but it’s certainly a mistake for game balance and health. Would Shathra really not have been appealing to players if serpent had some reasonable changes made to him? Let neutralize champs work all the time against him. Shathra would still be valued for her damage, atrophy and performance against other cosmics. Her pre-release sales would still be high but this way serpent wouldn’t break competitive play. What ticks me off the most is how avoidable this whole thing was and how little they seem to care about it.

The buff is irrelevant. I’m strictly talking about deep dive to release. Deep dive showed bigger numbers than we got. All I’m trying to say is temper expectations until she’s actually released and we get to use her.
I’m still not happy with Serpent as a whole. I have a R3 Serpent and it’s getting to the point where I’m seriously considering banning Serpent even though they only have a 6* because of how busted he is. I get so unlucky with my drafts that I don’t even get to draft mine. How unhealthy and broken is Serpent that he needs to just be auto banned?
Kabam completely lied about him in the rebalance they were truthful on many others but when it comes to a defender who most ban cause he’s such a threat to the balance of the game they don’t nerf him and won’t discuss it anymore cause they did it intentionally cause they don’t care and they can make money off future counters and make everyone else suffer

My comments are directed towards Kabam as a whole, not the dev. I’m sure once the champ is out in the ether it’s up to the execs to determine what happens. The rebalance team probably is just a figurehead to say they have one.
Balance is a funny word. They don’t want another Herc situation because they don’t want us to be able to trivialize fights using a champ on offense but if the champ is insanely overturned on defense and it comes at the cost of us, that’s perfectly fine.

No matter how the cards fall I find this to be a dangerous precedent… and ultimately the game will survive one champ like this, one that trivializes skilled gameplay to the point of barely relevant, but if this is a design trend that continues then I truly do worry about the direction we are heading in.
Enchantress while insanely complex is a return to norms, so hopefully Serpent remains an outlier.

I understand your sentiment but Serpent is quite easy with the counters. Make sure you have chavez or kush (primary counter) and a secondary counter (wiccan, werewolf, doom).
I do have a r3 sarpant as well and I always let the opponent decide about the ban. On the rare ocassions he doesn't get banned, usually opponent get to draft him and I don't haha,
Boy Serpent is just so much fun. Unable to manage the power gain with the AI’s unwillingness to throw specials. Total skill issue for sure. It takes 100% skilled play to counter Serpent and I guess I’ll just never be able to be skilled. He definitely doesn’t have ridiculous mechanics and being unable to counter power snack & placebo is a skill issue for sure.

Serpent shouldn't be countering the mystic class. Class relationships and masteries should not be messed with. His kit is so rigged that everyone has forgotten his special attacks being undexable from the start 😂

Magneto was and should be the only exception given the nature of his powers. Serpent has ABSOLUTELY no reasonable explanation of him being able bypass the ENTIRE MYSTIC CLASS. This all started with mystic defenders slowly becoming nullify immune, then it went on to fateseal then stagger we let it slide because alot of people on here were defending kabam and explaining how cosmic defenders need It or else any mystic would be able to take them out easily. It wasn't that big of a deal because tigra started gaining popularity for her neutralize which was our escape from big cosmic mystic countering threats. We let it slide but now SERPENT is able to BYPASS EVERY MYSTIC ABILITY and kabam has now introduced a science champion who has UNCLEANSABLE debuffs, this could only be the beginning of more skill countering science champions. If the community does not start stating their disapproval on these things, it will only continue just like the photon undexable specials which we let slide because she was a well rounded champion and 2023 champions were mostly HITS and now we have serpent. Photon started the willpower mastery tampering, now we had onslaught as if his special attacks weren't hard enough to dex and the UNAVOIDABLE neuroshock damage you took by making one mistake weren't enough, he also punishes you for PARRYING(which is a mastery itself and a skill we all learnt) which now shuts of willpower as well in the process). We then had bullseye who also punished you for DEXING with the instant bleeds(thank GOD it got removed), then dust who shuts off WILLPOWER AS WELL and now serpent. This has got to stop please...

I have noticed the increased tampering with Masteries. No one wants to be “That Guy” and constantly run to the Forums whining, but look where that has gotten us:
Unblockable Specials that can’t be Dexed, with a kit that takes the good of the Class Wheel (Cosmic class being increasingly resistant to Power Drain/Lock/Burn) while ignoring the weaknesses of the Class Wheel (Cosmic class typically having various degrees of vulnerability to Stagger/Nullify/Neutralize/Fate Seal)
This is not a good path to be on. It really isn’t
Power drain, lock and burn are tech abilities which cosmic should be radiant m resistant to, and besides serpent there are no cosmic champions that aren't best countered by mystic champions even if they're immune to one of their abilities.
Does sandman being bleed immune break the class relationship wheel against skill champs?
No… he’s made of Sand. Like Thing is made of Rocks. The Serpent though is made of the same stuff as Odin and Thor so his bleed resistance makes sense… Well it makes sense if you wanted to remove the most common direct damage source on the game and AA proof him to limit players
I mean most champions that are power drain immune are mostly class based, at a certain point game design has to trump comic lore
My argument is that he's not immune to mystic abilities, he's immune to tech abilities that some mystics have
Fate seal, nullify, and stagger are inherently mystic abilities.
As are atrophy, buff duration reduction and offensive buff immunity
