Let's try and move this conversation back into a more constructive place. To be really honest, it's getting difficult to distil feedback because I'm getting a lot of... well... above. If we want to address feedback, we need to know WHY you're feeling the way you do, not just HOW you feel.
So, let's try this again. I know this launch didn't go the way many of you expected, but Why? What is the thing that you don't like.
Here's what I've been able to gather:
- Elder's Marks currency is a necessity to gain rewards in Solo and Alliance Events
- Elder's Marks are difficult to obtain without spending Units
- Biggest rewards in the mode are still somewhat based on participation and not competitive play - Wins are more valuable after recent changes but are still not the only way to progress in Solo/Alliance event.
- Without Relics, Gladiator's Circuit and Victory track are still not as enticing as the Solo and Alliance Event rewards
- Solo and Alliance Event Rewards are not enticing for the participation required(I know these two contradict each other, but different players will have different feedback)
- Trophy Tokens seem more difficult to come across than they used to be in the Beta
If you have more to add, please do. We are going to start cleaning up posts that are not constructive because it makes finding constructive feedback or continuing constructive conversations more difficult.#2 It takes way too long to even get to the point of earning rewards.
#3 If you choose to try for the rewards it's literally impossible w/o spending.
#4 It's not worth the effort.
Don't require us to use elders mark to participate in solo & alliance events
Make wins more important than just participating like 1800 points for win & 200 for participation?
The main problem is that you can't access to the Solo and Alliance Events because you need to buy stuff; you can't get points by playing freely with energy refills. Yes, you can still play the mode, get some currency and spending it in the store, and you will get good stuff there anyway... but if you want players to invest in this mode, at least give them some Elder's Mark for free (and just once), if they want to use more, then they can buy it; if they don't and don't care about the milestones, then they can still play by using energy.
As someone said above, you need to hook up your clients, so they can spend on your product. Putting everything behind a paywall is not always a good way to start a game/new mode, even if there is people willing to spend already. I know Kabam needs money as any company, but sometimes some decisions look good on paper, but not in practice.
Friendlies are a total win and the best part about the game mode. I love this more emphasis on this. Hold tournaments with this its awesome. Also I understand the incentive with the solo event as its a way to get everyone involved. I really don't have a problem with this except you have to spend to get the max milestones. Cut down on some of the points needed for milestones and make it less of a grind and I guarantee people will love this.
Alliance event is meh, I can see the potential but just seems pointless in all honesty. I don't see any allies that’ll push for this legitimately without purposely losing to get points or something and battlegrounds is a solo based game mode so it makes me wonder what its purpose is.
These are my thoughts and opinions. I really like the game mode and it has a lot of potential, but I enjoyed the beta more with the objectives and leaderboard that felt rewarding on day 1.
Elder marks are too expensive and/or too hard to obtain. Basically 15 units for 15 elder marks (depending what tier you can buy/afford with units), but energy refills are 30 units for 70 energy 🧐. Why not give more points towards solo/ally goals with elder marks but award points for both energy and elder marks.
This mode would take 24/7 playing it and using unit/money to achieve anything worthwhile. In comparison if you hit a couple milestones in arenas you get units and gold. In battlegrounds you get nothing, in theory you could spend an entire energy refill and get no where. That’s utterly frustrating.
2) Elders Mark aren't necessarily difficult to attain, but so few are giving through the VT(only 900 means 60 matches worth which even with 100% win rate doesn't get half the point for solo event). By adding more EM through the victory(at each division not just each tier) that could mitigate the requirements if you're against removing them entirely
3) Yes, if you have a big enough wallet you can just participate through solo events. Participation alone doesn't help with VT cause you need wins.
4) Yes. Until Relics are ready add some rewards more than just more Tokens to entice players
5) The event rewards shouldn't be gated behind EMs. By removing that requirement you give people a reason to grind who don't care to compete for top spots.
6) Yes they seem harder to acquire. There are a lot of Tokens available but for the casuals who don't want to grind the entire VT in 1 week some of the store rewards won't be attainable right away and since the store resets weekly we may miss some 6* shards and sig stones and other things.
Hope this feedback helps
SCENARIO 1:
I'm on a 5 win streak using FREE energy. All my fights were either impressive or clutch but despite how well I played, it didn't give me any point for my skills and grind. Then, I decided to use my limited Elder's Mark for my next 3 matches and I was outplayed or out-rostered, I gained eligible points but I only received 2,400 points (Solo) and 1,800+ points (Alliance) despite having an initial winning streak.
5 Wins - 3 Losses (2,400 points, 1,800+ points)
This is highly demotivating.
SCENARIO 2:
I decided to use my Elder's Mark early on and got matched with three tankers (3*-4* rosters) and got 3 easy wins. I was out played for the next 5 games where I used my FREE energy. How many points did I get? 6,050 (Solo) and 5,400+ (Alliance).
3 Wins - 5 Losses (6,050 points, 5,400+ points)
I got almost three times more points! Did I play better? Definitely, no. Was I the better strategist? Definitely, no. Was I competitive? No. I was just lucky.
SUMMARY:
- The Current System saturates the competitive aspect of Battlegrounds.
- Being given a choice to use your FREE energy or Elder's Mark can be translated to: Do you want to waste energy and try this game mode or Do you want to try your luck to get some points?
- Elder's Mark is strictly limited per month. In a scenario where no one can buy more than what is given, the player with the highest point doesn't equate to being the best player of the season but the luckiest player who luckily used his Elder's Mark for all the matches he won and used FREE energy for the matches he lost.
MY SUGGESTION:
It is highly demotivating to win a match and not get any points for your effort and/or use your hard earned money to purchase units or time grinded units for Elder's Marks only to get a lower point because you unluckily used them at your losses. I suggest introducing Elder's Mark as an energy source that refreshes like free energy. ALL fights shall require you to use ONLY Elder's Mark.
⇒ We get a limited amount per day, say, 60 Elder's Mark per 5 hours like Energy.
⇒ Consecutive wins reward Elder's Mark, say, 15 for every 3 consecutive wins.
⇒ Elder's Mark can be purchased for those who want to grind the ladder and better rewards.
⇒ FREE Energy Refills can be converted to 15 or 30 Elder's Mark.
- This will make ALL fights worthy without having to think of choosing between using FREE energy (no points) or Elder's Mark (min-max points).
⇒ To avoid tanking (getting points by losing) the point system should be geared toward your ranking.
Victory Circuit
Bronze~Gold: Wins x1, Participation x1
Platinum~Vibranium: Wins x1.5, Participation x1
Gladiator Circuit
Uru~Arcane: Wins x1.75, Participation x1.25
Quantum~Mysterium: Wins x2, Participation x1.5
Celestial: Wins x2.25, Participation x1.5
The current system screams Pay to Play so loud that it's really demotivating to play.
Bad: Rewards for the required unit spend are not a good value
Bad: Effort and time to obtain rewards are very unbalanced
Bad: Spending units is rewarded considerably more than good game play
Bad: Conveniency features locked behind a very disproportionate pay wall
Bad: This breathes life back into bots.
Bad: Rewards and progress are ladder based. Matchmaking is NOT ladder based but ladder+roster strength based.
However, BG is giving the best rewards now and it also requires people to:
1) spend a lot money
2) play this game mode like a full-time job
So BG is a fundamental change to the ecosystem of the game, it is definitely not a game I can handle anymore, if there is no significant change in the future, I might have to step back, and play in low-tier alliance and spend less money and time, to enjoy my real life.
BG consumes both money and time, none of them will be happy, this game mode is totally wrong.
You are fundamentally change the ecosystem, this is a dangerous move IMO.
I think the most fundamental change needed is the entire elder marks system. Few multiplayer games have an entry cost to ranked ladders/systems as when it becomes a pay to play situation, it’s basically almost equivalent to gambling as you are throwing money to play and chances are you’ll be screwed by the matchmaking system itself, leaving you with nothing for your investment.
At the current stage, the mode seems best for a casual approach to just enjoy a few matches whenever one has an itch to challenge their skills.
First, remove all the nonsense tracks and marks and whatever, and streamline the process. Finding a match takes 15 energy, that’s all.
Next, merge the rewards into ranked rewards, similar to AW.
Lastly, sell Victory Tokens (or whatever they’re called) that allows you to not drop rating when losing a match at 100 units a piece, to be used before matchmaking.
Keep the mode skill based over participation based.
