Emphasis on can
How is time spent in game not a resource in the game’s economical balance? Time is THE resource that the entire game is built around. It’s exactly why it takes time or units to gain energy back and why there are cooldown timers in Arena and Incursions, which you can also bypass with units. I could instead spend the time in Arena, or auto-fighting through lower EQ content, which would get me units, which Kabam sells for MONEY. Therefore, time is incredibly valuable. You can’t sell us units that we can use to buy back our time, and then say that time is not valuable. That is as much of a direct contradiction as saying that somebody is a married bachelor. Quod erat demonstrandum, as my philosophy professor would say.
Winter of Woe and content like it are meant to be extremely difficult, and are impossible to solo on your first try. (If MSD did it on his first try, he doesn’t count, even though I doubt he solo’d on his first try too.) The energy consumption alone gates the content from people who don’t want to spend a crazy amount of revives on it. Summer of Pain and little or no energy cost with it, and that was with the revive farm being alive and well. Revive farming is no longer a thing, so why the energy cost? I’m not advocating for the return of the revive farm. It’s somewhat of a good thing that it’s gone. I will never do Abyss without it, but that’s because that content is specifically made to take hundreds of revives, the inventory caps make it to where I can’t save up that many, and the rewards aren’t worth the unit spend.
I think Kabam is making a very shortsighted trade-off here. Little/no energy consumption would create greater player engagement with the content, which is something that Kabam has claimed to want in the past (this is one of the specific reasons Kabam gave for taking the revive farm away in the first place.) I personally love content like Summer of Pain and Winter of Woe. I spent hours working those Summer of Pain fights, and loved every minute of it. Spent units and revives where my lack of skill and roster were insufficient. I even went back in after my objectives were complete to try to do better and grow my skill. I ignored Arena completely (which is a sacrifice of hundreds if not thousands of units), because it was the most fun and engaging content Kabam had made.
I really love this content, and I really want to engage with it. I don’t mind spending my time, units, and revives. My issue is that you’ve near doubled the price with the high energy cost here. Every time I drop an energy refill on it, I honestly question why I’m doing it and it takes the fun out of challenging it. Content creators are having the same problem. You’ve literally lowered community engagement with this. MSD has released one solo per category. Normally we’d see a lot more from him, featuring what you could do with a 2* or 3* champ. Other content creators would be trying multiple other champs too. I think the energy cost is a clear reason why we haven’t seen that, and will continue to not see it.
The energy cost kills hype for the content, lowers community engagement, demotivates players, and makes the game less fun. And for what reason? To make it cost more? Why? We’ve already established that it had a cost, why was there a need for more of a cost? Again, I think this is a shortsighted decision that will cost Kabam more in the long run.
I think Kabam said something along the lines of making sure future fights aren’t this bad but I have very very low expectations after seeing this fight. If they actually do make future fights more manageable then it’ll be a miraculous surprise but I wouldn’t count those chickens before they’ve hatched.
Two things here, if it is that damn awful to do the fight that you are able to do it the 14 day, because it is too hard, maybe it is not something you should be investing time, because as I said earlier, this is not supposed to be beatable for everyone, and thats already stated several times.
Next one, the fact that you spend it all there, and you dont have enough for other content, that doesnt change the fact that energy is free, and If you really need that much energy due to how hard it is for you to do the content, you have the refills, which are also free, if you grind a little bit of arena you will get 30 units every time you need them for the content you wanna spend the energy on.
BGs is a bad example, you have the marks also to do the fights, if you choose to use Energy thats a you problem.
We cant get angry because of everything, the fight sucks, the will give us a free point just for completion, and the next fights are easier, and Abs Man will be tuned down for the last one so it is not this hard.
I think everything else is kinda fair.
Shocker isnt ideal for the fight and I wouldn’t even bother with Mysterio.
The worst part about this event despite all the complains is that its just so frustratingly limited on options. I have to use a 5* Sandman that i just took to r5 and ascended
We cannot attach the problem to something thats not related to it. If you buy an Iphone and you receive a Nokia, the problem is not the price of it, but the product itself, the product here is the damn fight, not the energy.
It did come as a shock to the rest of community at large who didn’t attend the livestream that they have this super OP fight that they just go in with 10 energy take a blocked hit/parry and have to restart. Before you know it, you are out of energy and have to wait few hours to go in again. Had this fight been less punishing, people may have got a chance to actually experience the fight somewhat. So you can’t separate the 2 issues from each other.
As to your analogy, a more appropriate one would be people went to buy iPhone 14 but were sold an iPhone 15 pro max and were also charged a couple of thousand extra because the store thought there should be an additional cost to it.
So Kabam, be careful, you are pushing your core players to the edge by pandering to an elite few...
And I dont think thats analogy is accurate, since an Iphone 15 would be better than the 14 version, in this case, the phone we get is worse, since the fight is trash.
I think attacking the energy like thats the problem is wrong, since thats not the main source of the problem.
Ill give you another analogy, if you put salt into a sweet cake, you cant blame other ingredients, only the salt, because thats what makes the cake taste like garbage, the salt here is the fight, and we are blaming the eggs just because.
