I don't like this new map either, it's a chore to traverse because of all the empty spaces and portal costs. Your alliance has to work together to move properly if not then you'll end up taking paths by yourself.
The left path takes tons of energy to traverse and without help you'll barely make it the boss unless you have help unfortunately I've been going solo a lot which has been happening a lot since kabam implemented this version.
Defense means little now except having different defenders who are little more than fodder in a lot of cases due to the radical changes kabam made, they added costing portals whoo, they changed all the nodes, they added partial or total visibility on defense which means the enemy can just see some or all of your defense.
People are just walking through defenses now, there's little strangey in placing now, some our just putting in **** tons of magik, dorm and nightcrawler, they also made a lot of champions pretty much useless or lessened their abilities.
Some alliances are abandoning all defense so it doesn't give the opposition any kills. A lot of people seem to have lost all motivation to play since then, my alliance has been suffering from this amoung many others.
They sucked all the fun out of it, over blown the map, spread it out to much, added portals that almost no one wanted, changed some nodes which made some champions weaker cause of it.
The map didn't need to change this much, it just needed some tweaks, some nodes changed or removed, maybe the layout could've been changed a bit but not this.
This map is just an eyesore and it's just not fun anymore it's chore that I feel sometimes feel like i don't need or want to do.
Yeah, I need to agree with this. Defense placement was a crucial part of AW. It was the strategic side of it. You had to think and anticipate how people would try to deal with nodes. Now it's lost all it's purpose
I actually like the portals--and I absolutely abhor the portals in game mode bc of the wasted energy they take--it's essentially two movement for what should be one tile. I like the portals bc it allows you to make decisions on who takes which miniboss. On the occasion where you can't clear a mini boss with the two assigned to take it, u can throw a third person over from a different line if that line's miniboss was soloed.
But as far as being crunched for time, I am not following you. We have had zero problems reaching boss in time. Maybe you guys need to start moving earlier in war--particularly on the outside. The alliance we are fighting today made almost no movements until like 10 hours after war started and they are still going to 100% with a couple of hours left. If you are treating this map like the old map, where u try to wait and see what your opponents will explore, that will cause a time crunch. Just move to 100% the map immediately. It's going to happen anyway
I agree with about 95% of this post. I gave it a Like, but I'll say what I think real quick.
Portals aren't the problem. I've never particularly liked portals, but in this case, it's a good idea. Being able to move to one side of the map then jump back to the middle to help whoever needs it is great for teamwork. However, it takes energy. That's why no one likes it. There are far too many portals. There are seemingly far less fights now that this is the case. I don't know if there really are less or not, I didn't count, but it just seems much slower and less exciting when you have 50% more moves but with the same or less amount of battles.
Another problem the lack of defender kill points. This one is HUGE. It's the main issue. Bear with me here. You can't get points for defensive kills anymore, right? All the points come from offense, through exploration and kills. Yes, there's defender diversity, but that's a small portion in comparison to the other two. Most alliances can get full exploration pretty easily. If an alliance simply doesn't place defenders, they chop the opponent's points nearly in half. That's a guaranteed win almost every time. Less defenders means less points for your opponents. I haven't tried it out yet, but in theory, that's a flaw that could destroy the whole setup of War.
Less defense is better than more defense.
Not giving up attacker kill points will out weigh defender placement and rating.
Kabam does not think this through. No one is surprised.
The new aw is a joke and killed all alliance competition in the game. Arena grinding won't last much longer with 6* coming out. Kabam, what is your next move? It better be a good one.
I can verify that this is absolutely true. My war opponents only placed defenders on mini boss and boss node while my alliance placed all 150 defenders. Both hit 100% exploration. No prizes for guessing who won. AW is broken. Lesser defenders placed wins u the war.

So we've just lost AW. Exploration was 100% vs 100%. We placed 150 defenders which brings us 7500 pts, they placed 108 defenders (5400 pts). We got 16200 pts for 108 attacker kills and they got 22500 for killing our defenders. So is that how we suppose to win wars now? By placing only minibosses and bosses? That seems completely unfair to be honest.

Well that would be awful. Imagine all that planning and then your defenders just vanish and you still can't use them for quests or attavk phase.
