Brian Grant just insinuated he may quit the game over the gifting event.....

IIRC last year he chose to forgo the 6* rank up bundle because he was still content with 5* yet was allegedly playing catch up for prestige etc. I respect that he plays the long game but I don’t think that he plays the long game particularly well, he’s just got a 4 year head start on half the player base, is good at the game and sinks 8 hours a day into arena.
There also has to be a motive to buy these GGC and the only real motive to do that for someone such as myself who spends little money across the year - £50 max - and has 22 R3 is to make the next power level a possibility from the rewards or what on earth am I going to spend my units on it for?
The 4th July, BF and Gifting are designed so that unless you’re grinding an obscene amount of arena you can’t naturally max out everything for free so that P2P players do gain a net profit.
Honestly most of this comes across as him being but sad that the penny’s finally dropped. I’m guessing he’s been given an ultimatum in his ally and told he’s gotta catch up or step aside. Despite what @danielmath says about his rep etc. which believe me, I’m not disputing, I think the scales might start to tip the other way for the next few months until the low spenders/F2P can have a team of R4 as well.
I randomly got a T6B and T3A drop on an alt - typical, and it was 10% T6B and 5% T3A so you’d need 300 T6B drops and 600 T3A drops to make a single R4. Assuming you got god-like RNG and got exactly what you wanted each time you’re looking at 900 crystals so 270,000 units. Which is ~£7800 depending on where you are in the world. At the 1/50 drop rate that they’re listed at in the crystal you’re looking at a hell of a lot more.
Of course that’s assuming that 10% and 5% are the only values in the T3A/T6B.
He is basically leeching on Kabam for years. Ok, he wants to showcase that with enough time and dedication this game can be played on high level without spending any money.
Using something and not paying for the service for me feels ethically and morally wrong. I am nkt saying whale out but spend few €¥$£ here and there maybe it is sigil, maybe it is offer for 4 of July it does not matter.
Point is. Every activity that is played on high professional level asks for a money investment.
I'm one day shy from my MCOC birthday. I had pretty great time playing this game minus dex/perry issues and awful content like Act 6.1-6.3] and Alliance Wars . Few days ago I completed 7.3 and now want to focus on the rest of Carina's Challenge and later explore Act 7.
For every story content money expenditures are unnecessary or are relatively low.
He wants to play in Final 8 of ChampionsLeague/NBA whell he should invest in it. If not he should come down to us amatures and play casually.
One more line or two and I'll bring this post to an end. I think Kabam are making horrendous errors in judgement regarding future of this game. Alliance War and Alliance Quest are such boring feast of self punishment and time wasting for them to be pinnacle of competitiveness is mind boggling. Technical issues can be solved and will be but ideas fire and propel every human action and ideas coming from Kabam are stale.
-Why should Kabam cater to F2P in any way shape or form? How does that bring money to Kabam and allow them to make the game better?
- How does Brian Grant have any actual contribution or influence to MCOC (the game), outside of his fan base who is rooting for him?
Let's put personal antics aside and look at it realistically from Kabam's perspective - a business perspective and not a F2P players perspective and use some common sense.
I'm sorry, I still like BG and some of his YouTube content, but he is living on the moon. Regardless of what Kabam has done in the past with the game or chooses to do in the future, his personal opinion is just that - his opinion. Unless he works for Kabam and helps make the financial decisions, he doesn't have a pot to piss in regarding the matter. Can he bring in the same type of money for Kabam that Kabam's gifting method this year is doing? I'm all years Brian Grant - how would you get the whales to spend tons of money and keep doing it - even if it doesn't benefit you personally?
The game is what it is for top spenders. Let the whales be whales and "compete" for that "coveted" top 30, top AQ and top AW rewards - they're paying for that privilege in spades. Whales are paying for the game - Brian Grant is not. The fact that any FTP or low spender wants to be at top of the game (or darn close to it), which means getting there as fast as people throwing thousands (and let's be real - 10's of thousands) at the game on a regular basis, is beyond absurd.
Brian Grant is not part of the game economy - he thinks he is, but he isn't. Doesn't matter how respectable he is on YouTube or how respectable his alliance is. He feels pressure because he's at a point where he can't keep up to be there and is floundering over it. This is something many of us have felt before (often more than once). At some point, if I can't contribute to the overall alliance needs (not enough game time, not meeting event requirements, not enough prestige), I would personally step down from the alliance instead of dragging the rest down with me.
He's a non spender who makes that choice and sticks with it. He gets to play for free because he likes the game (or at least likes it while it has allowed him to be at the top), gets to earn money from YouTube as a side business while playing the game, but has an expectation that he deserves to be at the top with the folks dropping fat cash.
It's absolutely bonkers.
And we’re pretending that throughout next year and beyond Kabam won’t add those rewards to future content?
Okay…
Have you people ever played any other top mobile games that have been at the top for years? Your heads will explode.
The only point raised by BG is that the advantage spenders have is too much and not good for the game. Sure disagree with that if you want. There's only a couple people in here that actually addressed this . Everyone else is just bashing on BG because he doesn't spend and his opinion is naught
From my perspective BGs is like some compay that acquires inputs does not pay for them makes final product and earns revenue, rins and repeat. Once more, I like his content he is doing awesome job but truth is truth.
Kabam should make entirely skill based game mode with random champions where everyone could compete on mothly basis. With decent MMR.
Ive seen some higher alliance folks here bashing him on other points, jealousy perhaps? Regret after seeing that they spend thousands on pixels perhaps? idk. Lots of vitriol in the comments.
People make strawman arguments against what Brian's concerns are, and don't even back it up. They just say they disagree against an opinion Brian isn't arguing about.
At the end of the day he is a YouTuber. Has nobody wondered how many clicks he's gotten on that video in the last 24 hours?
The f2p guy is monetizing on all of this people's concerns about kabam monetizing lol
It will impact AQ but it's unlikely that the person with 15k prestige and 3 r4s has leapfrogged anyone and was probably top of the prestige standings already and you can apply that to most the others who whale out on Gifting.
AW it has no real impact, people will still clear deathless with r3s. More R4 defenders is just "meh". If you look at the past gifting leaderboards or top 100 by PI only a few are competing for Masters - which may be due to not needing the rewards Vs effort etc
Solo content (Story/EQ) there's nothing that can't be done with 5/65 5*s.
Solo competitive mode does not exist yet so getting annoyed at the hypothetical situation where you end up being drawn against one of the 10 people in the game with 3+ r4s after Christmas isn't worth worrying about. BGs point about Cavs makes more sense there in terms of roster depth, but we don't even know how it's going to work.
The advantage only stands to impact a small handful of folks specifically (BG included) where they are in the top 20-top 40 AQ bracket. Where to maintain getting 1 R4 is going to probably be a requirement. BG has had the chance to pick up mats and chosen other things and has a stack of units that he could use for gifting but (reasonably) doesn't want to.
I feel more sorry for those that have dropped a ton only to be expected to drop a ton more to maintain. Asking them to drop a ton to stand still wouldn't have worked.
But you have made a valid point about how Kabam knows the economy and that they know what is too much and what isn't. Appreciate you making a point that addresses his issue
Restaurants sometimes give coupons for free burgers but they still expect you to pay to get the fries and a drink.
