It's hilarious to see all these content creators crying like babies especially considering their audience. It's like Jeff Bezos whining to his minimum wage employees that Elon Musk has a few billion more dollars.
I'm not that fussed about it but I think he does make a good point. Of course the 1st r4s were going to be bought. Spenders will always spend to stay at the top of the prestige race. But it doesn't make sense to allow people to buy 3-4 R4s before the most hardcore FTP grinders can get even 1.
First of all, BG isn't going to quit MCOC any time soon. The game basically pays his bills via YouTube. Tranistioning to a new game, making videos, and getting the same support he receives from the MCOC community would not be an easy task. For a man that only eats beans, I can't imagine him making that decision easily.
Second, I love Brian. He's my favorite, but it doesn't mean I have to agree with him on everything. I frequently disagree with people I love. Ask my wife. This game does not exist without the big spenders, but the big spenders need incentive to spend. Kabam's employees are not going to make this game and get constantly yelled at by the player base for free. In fact, they expect to turn a profit. Does this mean that spending will create a larger progression gap between big spenders and the rest of the player base? Absolutely. Does that mean that you can't still be competive. No! There will always be people around you to compete against. You simply have to compete at your own level and be okay with not having the ultimate rewards. You'll win some, you'll lose some, and you will still have fun.
Third, this is only a big deal right now during the shift in the meta between R3s and R4s. People who spend big and get the big rewards are going to have a huge advantage for awhile, but it will even out over time. Eventually, T6B and T3A will become more available and will be sitting in your overflow with everything else. By that time, the big spenders may have way more R4s than everyone else, but it will only be their top 5 champs that actually matter. Beyond that, the games comes back down to skill, knowledge, and preparation.
Then we get to do this all again when R5s come around. Then 7 stars going to R2.
This gifting event marks a big change in the Battlerealm, and people often don't like change. That doesn't mean this is the end of the Battlerealm altogether.
I do share one sentiment with BG. The gifting event is gross. To the people that are going to be spending $20k over the next couple weeks, can you imagine how many people's lives you could improve drastically over the holiday season by donating half of that?
Do what millennials do instead. Tweet about it (caring about homeless).
I was hoping for a less scam heavy event. for a "community building" event like the gifting, it's toxic and too easily manipulated. especially for casual gamers who don't exactly have a team of trusted players around them.

Then this event isn't for you. Go look forward to the free event Kabam is going to give everyone later this month
An alternate thought. What does one of these whale accounts do once gifting is past? They can potentially get a rank 4 or three out of the gifting crystals, then get a bit more from the event. Then what? Everything else in the game is wildly less remunerative. Is it even fun to be the most stacked account in the game?
I’m not a whale, but I do have a pretty well stacked roster and I got to say that after reaching a certain amount of high end rank ups, the game loses a lot of the fun because you’ll have every possible node combination/encounter covered. I rarely get excited for new champs too since I have every piece of utility that I could possibly need in my roster already. The only possible utility I could use is a Peni Parker counter but I’m sure that I already have one in my roster that I’m overlooking—(other than Magneto)
He’s already got another video out, opening GGC’s to profit off the event…he’s a hypocrite who hasn’t once supported the game financially.
He literally said in the video that he was still going to do his GGC trades. Doing what he said he was going to do makes him a hypocrite? lmao. Also I would argue that having a popular YouTube channel about the game supports the game. Your criticism is essentially that he did what he said he would do, and that he is a FTP player.
This literally doesn't affect 99% of the community. It affects the top 20 alliances that's all. Who cares if they get an abyss nexus crystal as rewards, you really think people spending 10k alone on gifting don't already have every 6* in the game? LOL
Too many people getting pressed over something that doesn't affect them.
I feel the worst for the players that spent moderately in this game to remain competitive. This event makes it pretty clear that not even moderate spenders can be competitive, only massive whales, and that's pretty sad. Those players that spend, but don't have a bottomless wallet are getting massively screwed.

The game is, at least in part, aspirational. Since we all participate in the game it’s different than, say, passively watching a sport. I remember working with athletes who played in international basketball leagues, and they would watch NBA games with the intent of someday being there and doing the same things those guys were doing. Even if a lot of them knew in their hearts that they were journeyman who weren’t moving up, there was always the hope and the motive.
But when the top players are just getting things the rest of us can’t have because we don’t have the financial resources? You can’t aspire to be a whale? So, yeah, some of this is just perspective and having realistic goals. But some of this is also the game setting strange and unrealistic standards for success.
This literally doesn't affect 99% of the community.
If it affects the top players and spenders, then it will also affect anyone below them
It affects the leaderboard of Top 20 AQ and Plat 1 and above AW. It literally doesn't affect anyone else at all. I'm in a Top 20 Alliance and don't spend crazy on this event and could barely care lol
Doesn't matter much . BG always insinuates he is leaving the game whenever something major happens. Top 30 will always have the best rewards. If you spend 15-20k you should get whatever you want in this game.
Most people are paying to be the first , but it all evens out eventually.
I believe his YouTube videos are what makes him money as I doubt he has a side job with the amount of time he spends grinding. Unless he's able to move on to a different game and have enough followers follow him I don't see him doing it. I'ts not a given he would be able to recover enough subscribers on a new game. Not that I care as I don't see the point of most of his videos. I hate grinding....watching someone else do it is even worst.
I find it kind of ironic he mentions the spenders are going to have an advantage as he has an advantage over the average f2p players because he does it for a living...most players don't have the same kind of time he is able to put into the game.

Seatin kinda left the game and didn't make a big deal of it.
BG should not even be playing at the level he is playing at currently, he is able to because he is a 4loki OG.
This is his business and I doubt he would be able to transition into anything else because Kabam has tried to get us to switch to mroc and the newest revolution game and still no luck lol.

I don't think Seatin left the game completely as I still see him do the odd video but he isn't spending the kind of time he used to. You could also tell this was coming as he started posting non MCOC videos likely as a test to see how many of his subscribers would watch. It's kind of too bad I really enjoyed Seatin's god tier list even if I didn't always agree with it.

Your point is well taken though
Yeah I should have said less active. He post every 14 days or so.
Brian is a humble guy and not the type to chase status or money. He's the biggest streamer and doesn't even take himself too seriously, he just does it for fun. I don't know why people think he's threatening to quit, he just said he's less motivated to make channel content.
Well, a good portion of his content is aimed around showing people how to compete for free. Which is admirable. The problem is, competing head-to-head with spenders is never a goal to set. It's folly. People pay for an edge up. That's what they're buying, in one form or another. People can play COMPETITVELY for free. They can't match the whales.
It’s a shame that this kind of thing happens, but if we compare this to a more traditional hobby/sport, such as say running; what is the price of entry to the competitive leagues?
What about something more fun, like downhill skiing? How f2p is that? Ok what about… chess?
I want to see Brian grant succeed, but any popular recreation has a price of entry.
The difference with mcoc is this game also has a built in kill switch, with the chase from 4* to 5* to… 7*s. Will we ever get to 40*s? I suppose I hope so…
The game will die either before introducing 7 stars or soon after doing so
I'm not a f2p player by any means but not a big spender either. For the past 2 years, on the average I've spent every month. I don't mind spending a little bit more cos but that won't even be enough to make it worthwile. This is a cash competition more so than an event for those that can afford it and Kabam is ready to milk it. While they do so, they'll leave so crumps for people like me to collect along the way. If RNG favors you, you may eat well. My problem with Kabam is, they know how to milk cash from this game meanwhile this year the actual game that we play has been suffering from control issues for too long. Important adjustment or update like mastery setup that will make things better for summoners tremendously, even improve AQ and AW experiences is non-existent (how long since they said they're working on it?). Also, how long and often do we cry for communication. Did we even get any info ahead of time about the rewards/drop rates of this event. Don't we at least deserve that so we can plan especially cos there's money involved. And if not, how about communicate and tell us why. Hasn't it become normal now to see errors and bugs in new releases from drop rates in store to champion descriptions and contents? Didn't we even get an error in this event on the drop rates? Don't worry we'll soon hear from Kabam as usual (it's YTCC with a huge following), in summary they'll tell us they appreciate our feedback and keep it mind next time. The next thing next time, similar reaction by the majority. My point is I just want them to use this brilliant idea of milking money to solving our game issues and treat summoners like the VIP we are starting with better communication
I like BG. I like KT1. But honestly, I feel like some of these people only truly get upset when something they don't personally like happens to them. They can overlook other issues (complain about them some, but let them slide) when they can deal with the problems thanks to their deep rosters, big allies, bank roll, amount of time available to grind, etc. And for everyone else who can't, well, then it's just not the content for you, right now.
I'm sorry for the "competitive" players who feel shafted, but welcome to the club. Honestly, this game has never been competitive. It's never been a contest - how could it be when money is involved and provides an advantage for those that have an abundance of it? Money is king in business - thems the facts. Whether anyone wants to accept it, Kabam is here to make money, not provide a "contest" for the fun of it.
I get the entire argument, I really do - folks are upset because someone with little time or skill, can buy an R4 if they spend thousands of dollars.... tthousands of dollars - let that sink in - that is a lot of money and it's a pretty small subset of people willing or able to do it. Anyone allowed to spend that much and willing to spend that much money on a mobile game, so be it. The rest of us, let's be human, budget our money/time for real stuff, and be realistic about the power of money in mobile game that incentives spending.
Everyone with an R4 right now already spent money on this game at one time or another. They built their accounts faster by buying CAVs, buying items for AW/AQ to get the best rewards, buying the R4 deals little by little or buying units on the fly to knock out content. But everyone with an R4 right now (up until todays gifting event), absolutely also spent money on this game to be at the top.
Someone like CowWhale was spending thousands a month on CAV crystals, ensuring he always had the most current champs . Then, he also spent 10's-of-thousands on gifting, to ensure he had a never ending supply of the most coveted rank up resources of the time that he could dig into at the drop of the hat so he could dupe them, rank them and max sig them from day 1. How was that competitive? How was that different? It wasn't - it just didn't impact a certain subset of player, who now know what the rest of us have experienced for years. Welcome to the club.

From what i understand of Brian, I think it is more than that. I'm skeptical he'd quit, but it has more to do with how he specifically views and plays the game in general. But while I think he's not the only one with issues with the Gifting event, I think a large component of his issues with the gifting event are very specific to him, and I think he is fully aware of this.
I think the most important part, is that with money grabbing events like this one, there's no competition fun anymore. Just like he said, why run abyss if you get the same rewards with money? This is not only affecting ftp players, but a large majority that do buy a few stuff here and there occasionally, but don't spend 3k bucks in a month. It's really sad, you don't have the same excitement anymore getting a cav nexus by working hard on abyss, when you know that lots of other whale-players got it just by spending cash for fun.

The game is very competitive. Wherever you are ranked, you will find similar opponents, similar ally mates , similar AQ results, and Similar roster levels.
There is no reason why you should be competing with anyone else.
The major problem is people only have to go off YouTubers, but it's a small portion of players that represent the community. You go through forums and you see people are happy about their first TB champion or even their first R5 champ.

"Why run abyss if you get the same rewards with money." I dont know. Maybeee because abyss was what 2-3 years old now? And players like BG have benefitted from Abyss rewards up to now? Sure man if other players want to not complete abyss and just want to wait around 2-3 years until this year's gifting event happened PLUS was able to get into the top 3 gifting alliances sure man. Sure.
