How have we still not gotten a Kabam response? Or is it on a different Thread?
As it has been pointed out recently, their silence is not an admission of guilt or a slight against the player base, it's simply that they do not have anything to contribute to the conversation. I understood where Brian Grant was coming from and I agree to a point, specifically that rank 3 to rank 4 gems should not have been a thing however at the end of the day, Kabam don't live to serve Brian Grant or any other specific member of the community.

The problem is that without the gem, the rewards would be worthless to the top whales, so why would they bother spending of they’re getting nothing?

That's why no matter where this conversation goes, somebody is not going to be happy and they're going to complain conspiracy against them.
At this point if people actually believe they're going to remove Rewards, that's entirely misguided. For starters, that would be a sheet storm. Secondly, this isn't a situation that's broken. It's the same as saying, if people can't have the same for free, spenders shouldn't have it. That is a contradiction to the purpose of spending. People wouldn't spend to get what they're getting for free. I respect that people feel a certain way about it, but it's an Event that involves spending. Always has been, most likely always will be.

Why would Kabam need to respond to this? They are a company with making money as a target... I seriously dont understand the point of this post or his video tbh... He constantly is aware that there is a gap between f2p and players who spend...the naive part is thinking that in 6 years that gap would remain the same... Its quite obvious if he didnt spend for the 6 years he played.. people who did spend would make the gap larger and larger...

Why would anyone disagree to this? It’s all true
It's just one disagree. Chill. You aren't new here to be ignorant about disagree spammers
And for someone who keeps repeating they don't care, you seem awful lot invested
Or perhaps he was is very confused why anyone would give it a disagree. It’s not implausible that someone was genuinely curious of the disagree.

What BG is saying, is said every year. Gifting always sets the precedent for the new year. It’s always too much to attract the spending.
He’ll get over it. We’ve got F2P players and minimal spenders in our ally and we’re placing top 90 and P1/Masters, Christ we beat 4Loki this season and all of us have fun. I mean he did that video with Enzo who spends close to 2k/month as a matter of course and it’s people like Enzo that keep the lights on in HQ and keep this game free for Bg to profit off.
F2P players are never going to be the top of the tree because otherwise what motive is there to pay? Ultimately he’s been able to use his good name and ability to keep in an alliance that has moved beyond him for a good year or two and he’s tearing himself up over his prestige every video it’s kind of hard to watch now tbh.
True His thirst and drive for this "prestige" is going overboard now and its literally too much at this point I feel sick everytime that man mentions "prestige" these days He is just so emotionally invested in the number bump on a few pixels in his mobile game that its actually sad to see
I think what you were calling “thirst and drive” is really just his desperation to not fall so far behind in prestige that he is really left with no choice but to leave his alliance. He won’t be able to earn rank 4 materials in any alliance lower than the one he is in, so that would pretty much be it for anything like competitive play, I think? That’s seems pretty important, given who he is and what he does.
Does it interfere with your ability to drive your own car? No.
Then who cares?
This only works in a world in which prizes are given out at the end of every week for driving that car, the prizes are progressively more valuable based on the points that you earned while driving that car, and the points that you earned are specifically based on how expensive the car is. And, even better, your access to the most expensive cars possible are directly related to those top prizes.
The point is, what whales do doesn't affect you. If they drive a Ferrari or spend $100, 000 on dinner, it doesn't affect you.
They're buying boutique items with 50x the markup just because they're the latest and greatest gadget. If you wait 6 months you can buy the exact same thing at Walmart for $19.99.
It’s not really about me. It’s not even about the whales. It’s more about preserving a certain kind of play, and certain kind of community. And, to be fair, how and why I enjoy the game does rely somewhat on that kind of play, and the community around it.
I want things to be on equal footing too, but what do we know about monetization or running a business?
Let's look at it objectively. The whales spend a fortune, discard 90% of what they get, enjoy the remaining 10%, and we will never run into them or be affected by them. What are 30 Surfers and Thor Rags going to do on defense?
Before gifting, there are players at the top at risk of being booted because their prestige was 14285 and not 14293.
Those teams will get to the point where if you're 1 point behind the max, you're gone. Maybe we should enjoy where we are and even consider ourselves lucky we don't play under those rules?
I mean, in all honesty I do enjoy being far from that. I run critical care units for a living, and have neither the time or patience for that mess. Only reason I can even engage here right now is that I’ve been on leave for my wife’s illness.
Frankly, the game to me is low stakes. While I’m TB and all that, I don’t really play at a high level. Because of what I do, I can afford to spend for progression if I like. I don’t always. But sometimes!
I appreciate what BG does. I’m a gamer at heart, but chose to become a part of something else. The time I invested in training to be this, he invested in learning YouTube and developing his account and his audience. I like to watch the outcome of his choices, a part of me wishes I could just game (not much of me though). It’s not low stakes for him, and I kind of envy the ability to value something small like that. I work in a big stakes world.
I guess, it’s a little offensive that I could buy my way right past him. I have an awakened 6* surfer. I have the resources to buy $30000 in GGC, if I wanted. I could rank 4 a couple champs with that, get 15 k prestige, join NYC. Sure, whatever. But it still wouldn’t mean anything to me. Just feels weird.
Are we still pretending that people who play for free should have everything that people who spend have?
People by the end of this event will have 4+ r4 6-stars. Me, thronebreaker and everything 100% except abyss will not even have a single one. I'm not asking for 4 but by the time people are getting fully prestiged out with r4s I should get to have at least one.
Spending has always been an option in the game. They will always have more than the people who play for free because money saves time. There is NO way to keep up with people who spend. However, spending is not necessary to play. Which is great, considering the fact that spending makes the game possible for those that don't. Moreover, Resource will open up more and more as people advance higher up. It's been that way since the game started.
So I spend quite a bit of money on this game but he has a point…There should be a way to work toward the progression of getting a r4 instead of just being able to spend massive amounts of money on one event to instantly get a r4. I would think for 100% 7.3 with the difficulty level of this game by this point should be able to get you more then half a catalyst and alpha if we are gonna have events that hand out a generic r4 6* gem… THAT is the point of this video… Because let’s remember this is a game. Most games there is spending options to help you along the way, however do you honestly think it’s ok that you could 100% every bit of content that is out and not have a r4 6* but someone that spends thousands on ONE event deserves to get a 6* generic 3 to 4 rank up gem? So basically you succeed by having unlimited amounts of money or what’s the point? Why play this game unless your in the 1%?
The only class catalyst that is equal to its percentage for a rank up is the full catalyst. He calls a % of a random class catalyst an equal % of a rank up when it’s far from it given there are 6 classes.
The guy repeatedly passes up on end game materials during the major unit events and puts off doing content hampering his own progression, he doesn’t have much of a leg to stand on. The guy has lost the plot and can’t look at it objectively anymore.
Kinda with wilson on this one a little. It is true spenders have to sacrifice a grip or 3 to even get the r4s, and have been doing this for a while to be ahead of the game. Which is all this is really, a game. F2p players shouldn’t be able to get a r4 easy seeing as p2p players pay thousands to get their r4s, but there should be some tough content endgame players can do to gradually take a 6* to r4, and I don’t mean throw true focus and unblockable all over the place. This event definitely puts f2p players far behind in alliance events but it’s really not that big a deal. Rich get richer, and they are the ones funding the game for the f2p players. Maybe 2 years from now f2p players will have their first 6* r5 and a couple r4s and gather those rank ups for free, compared to the thousands p2p players paid now. However it is still a little odd kabam would let p2p players already have the option to have 4 6* r4s when they are relatively new. Took a while for us to even get a 6* r3. Prestige gap is gonna be crazy.

Do you think the rewards would be worthless if it were 3 of each t6b and T3A?

No, Brian made the right moves as a free-to-play heavy grinder. Sigs have been very scarce for non-spenders. I like Brian's most recent video on his perspective: he backs his argument and perspective well, while showing how this game is trending towards pay-to-win. He doesn't just make a statement: "Oh this is how it's always been". He researches and points to historical trends and timing of new content/gifting to show how mcoc's competitive scene is changing.
He grinded 50k+ units (this is already insane for a course of a year for most players), and spent most of it because Kabam has made less content, and more 18k unit spending deals for the competitive players to get the resources for pieces of the next step up (getting the first 6* r4 champion).
Most players didn't even have a 6* r4 before the cyberweekend deals.
There is no way that he knew top alliances will now go from having 0-1 r4s, to suddenly 3 to 4+r4s.
I'm really hoping for new amazing content 2022. Nothing against spenders/whales: spend away.
I just think the gifting rewards this time around was a bit more extreme compared to previous years(watch Brian's vid) with how stingy Kabam has been with r4 resources.
To qualify my position I'm not super comfortable with folks dropping the equivalent of a family car to chase r4s, but if that's what they want to do it's their prerogative.
I don't believe it's as game breaking as BG is making out. @thepiggy makes some excellent points about its impact, you will have 30 accounts with the chance to have 4+ r4s if they also end up getting top alliance rank rewards and maybe 100-150 accounts who will have a chance at over 3.
That may have an impact on the AQ prestige race but generally it's going to be the same folks who are already miles ahead.
I don't see the rank rewards having any impact on AW, as going off past years the leaderboard has generally been filled with accounts that are not pushing for masters in AW (for myriad reasons) The crystals might but that will mainly be down to some chasing their first R4 getting stupidly lucky
Solo competitive mode doesn't exist yet and unless BG has some inside track on it all we don't know how it's going to play out. It could be gated at 5* for all I know (would be the most profitable option). Its also not a given that it's going to appeal to the same whales chasing rank rewards in gifting.
Overall, unless you are in the prestige chase for AQ or aiming to be on the top 100 leaderboard its not going to change much of anything.
That being said, hopefully Act 7 completion/exploration and some future Everest content (when Covid stops buggering up schedules) gives people the chance to get an R4 or 2 by just playing early next year. I'd prefer to grind for it personally and BG has expressed similar sentiments about not enjoying Diablo when being overpowered or finding MCOC content not challenging.
As for all of this arguing and such I think at the end of the day it just doesn't matter. Kabam is dumb with a lot of things, but they definitely know how to control the "economy" of the game. If they didn't, this mobile game would be long dead instead of 7 years strong after all.
In 3 months time or so, t5cc will become very common. R4 resources will start to become increasingly more available. Most likely at a staggering rate compared to know due to the gifting event rewards. It will all even out in a reasonable amount of time. Kabam is good at this type of stuff guys. I honestly wouldn't worry about this event right know, because at the end of the day it evens out as Kabam has intended it to.
Kabam didn't do this on a whim, they have a plan. And I for one have faith that Kabam has the common sense to not trash their game.
I just think the gifting rewards this time around was a bit more extreme compared to previous years(watch Brian's vid) with how stingy Kabam has been with r4 resources.
That’s the point I was making with t5c % crystals not actually being equal to that % of a rank up like he portrayed in the video. It’s far less than what he portrayed them to be worth towards a rank up and closer to what we actually see with the rank 4 materials.
Those parts of the video where he’s like look at all this t5c in act 6 and war rewards, they’re worth far less than what he is saying they are. So no I don’t find the video to accurately portray the evolution of end game rank up material.
I watched the video and he made valid points, but a lot of them hold less weight due to him not addressing the fact that t5cc rewards in the past were were 6 class random compared to current t6 catalysts being a one class thing. This makes the calculations finicky
Poor fella’s lost the plot a little bit with this I’m afraid. Game was dramatically different in 16/17/18 compared to now in terms of user base and complexity.
IIRC last year he chose to forgo the 6* rank up bundle because he was still content with 5* yet was allegedly playing catch up for prestige etc. I respect that he plays the long game but I don’t think that he plays the long game particularly well, he’s just got a 4 year head start on half the player base, is good at the game and sinks 8 hours a day into arena.
There also has to be a motive to buy these GGC and the only real motive to do that for someone such as myself who spends little money across the year - £50 max - and has 22 R3 is to make the next power level a possibility from the rewards or what on earth am I going to spend my units on it for?
The 4th July, BF and Gifting are designed so that unless you’re grinding an obscene amount of arena you can’t naturally max out everything for free so that P2P players do gain a net profit.
Honestly most of this comes across as him being but sad that the penny’s finally dropped. I’m guessing he’s been given an ultimatum in his ally and told he’s gotta catch up or step aside. Despite what @danielmath says about his rep etc. which believe me, I’m not disputing, I think the scales might start to tip the other way for the next few months until the low spenders/F2P can have a team of R4 as well.
